vinyl siding types and styles

People used to consider vinyl siding as the dreary and cheap alternative to more traditional and expensive options. It was functional and held up in bad weather, but there weren’t many choices in colors or styles.

Today, vinyl siding comes in almost any style or color you want. It’s cheaper than most other siding options, and there’s greater variety than ever before. Vinyl siding now allows you to add insulation to the siding itself, which adds another layer of protection to your home.

Board and Batten Siding

Board and batten siding saw use first in the construction of barns and garden sheds. They made it originally from wide boards with narrow strips called battens. The vinyl variety is almost identical to the original in both texture and color. Choose from many different texture and spacing options. Or, pick between an assortment of different natural colors that will set your home apart.

Lap Siding

Lap siding looks like the traditional overlapping board siding that’s popular on older homes throughout America. It comes in different styles like Dutch lap, traditional lap, or beaded. It’s an attractive option that’s perfect for your home’s main exteriors.

Like the other siding options, there are also dozens of available textures.

Shake Siding

Vinyl shake siding looks like cedar shingles, but it’s constructed like ordinary lap siding to make it easy to install. Shake siding gives your home a classic, old-fashioned appearance that adds value to your property while protecting it from the elements. It comes in several different wood-grain colors and textures to give it a natural and cozy character.

Like many of the other vinyl siding options, insulated vinyl shake options are available, which add extra energy efficiency to your home.

Scalloped Siding

Scalloped siding is another excellent accent style for your home. Customers usually install it near the roof peaks to give it a wavy appearance that sets it apart from the main surfaces. It has a layered shell look and comes in many different textures, grains, and colors to give it extra flair.

Vertical Siding

Like the other styles listed above, vertical siding has myriad colors and textures to choose from including smooth or wood grain surface, which gives it a more natural look. And, for a little extra investment, you can insulate it for added energy efficiency and durability.

Vertical siding is another good option for cladding the main exterior portions of your home.

Most of our customers use a combination of styles and textures to give their homes a distinctive appearance. You don’t want to overwhelm the eye with flashy architectural panache on the main parts of your house, but scalloped accents on the peaks, or board and batten around the underpinning, create a beautiful sense of personality while affording your home the protection it deserves.
